Being socialized as a man while growing up in immigrant communities had various challenges in my personal experience, either from my friends or my parents. I always thought I had to put on this macho performance to be validated, and for a significant part, that eventually embedded itself in my personality.
For this project, I wanted to uncover generational trauma by directly exposing it to the lens. I find it very hard to talk about this work because of how overtly personal and uncomfortable the process was. Discussing emotional vulnerability to other men, especially older ones, that come from places and cultures where the such subject matter is taboo is not the easiest of conversations per se.
